“Being Scam Smart” to help Delawareans protect their money, avoid financial scams & fraud
WILMINGTON, DE – Congressman John Carney will host two free consumer protection information sessions on Thursday, April 12th. The first will be at the Georgetown CHEER Community Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The second will be at Delaware Tech’s Stanton Campus from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Carney will be joined at both sessions by Derick Rill of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), who will present tips and advice about identity theft, discount club memberships, medical discount scams, credit and loan offers, safety in social media, and more.
“We are a nation founded on the value of hard work. The financial resources Delawareans work so hard for should be protected from scammers and criminals,” said Congressman Carney. “This event, and the insight of the Federal Trade Commission, will make Delawareans more aware of their rights as consumers and empower them to make smart financial decisions.”
“The FTC works to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices, and to help consumers spot, stop and avoid them,” said Derick Rill. “Congressman Carney’s consumer protection sessions will help Delawareans recognize rip-offs and encourage them to practice smart financial habits.”
